After a career year and publicly making his case to return to the Atlanta Falcons, Cordarrelle Patterson is getting his wish. He is staying in Atlanta.
According to a source, the multi-faceted offensive option with the team where he had the most offensive success in his career will remain with the Falcons.
In February he told the From The Perch that he wanted to return to the Falcons if it made sense for him and his family. He wants to break the all-time mark of eight touchdown returns in Atlanta with Marquice Williams.
In his time with the Atlanta Falcons, he set career highs for rushing and receiving, running for 618 yards and six touchdown, and catching 52 passes for 548 yards and five touchdown.
His switch in positions made his career renaissance intriguing. He was drafted as a wide receiver by the Vikings in the first round of the draft, but became a fulltime running back under first-year head coach Arthur Smith.
He had his most targets as a receiver since the 2016 season with the Vikings, and he more than doubled his previous season high in carries (64 in 2020). He used social media and his cleats to convince Atlanta to keep him after the best offensive season of his career.
After leaving Minnesota, he went between the Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears before landing in Atlanta. One of the top kick returners of all-time, with 257 career returns for 7,552 yards and eight touchdown, was one of the best kick returners of all time, before the 2021 season, which was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time All-Pro. His eight kick return touchdown are tied for tops in the history of the game, and his kick return average is third-best in the history of the game.
The first report was from the NFL Network.
