The name of the first person to go to outer space, Yuri Gagarin, has been removed from the event.

The story was first reported by Futurism.

In light of current world events, the Space Foundation has changed the name of its event from "Yuri's Night" to "A Celebration of Space: Discover What's Next".

The focus of the event remains the same, to celebrate human achievements in space while inspiring the next generation to reach for the stars.

Insider asked the Space Foundation if they would respond to their comment outside of normal working hours.

The 10th anniversary of the organization at the Space Foundation Discovery Center will be celebrated with a fundraiser. The event will include anastronomy meet and greets, a drone obstacle course, a silent auction, and more.

Gagarin traveled to space on April 12, 1961. He landed in the Soviet Union after circling the Earth.

He was given the titles of Hero of the Soviet Union and Pilot of the Soviet Union after his space journey.

The move to change the name of the fundraiser comes amid a series of sweeping global sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Many brands have stopped doing business in Russia and Western countries have stopped selling branded products from Russia.
