Musk doesn't seem to be sure about getting crew members to Mars, despite previous claims.

In December of last year, Musk was planning a mission to land a human on Mars, but this week he said a human landing will happen in 2029. It's pretty clear he won't hit his initial goal of having boots on the Red Planet.

It would be a special anniversary if he could get people to the Martian surface by 2029, as evidenced by the picture below that depicts the first Moon landing in 1969. His reply included Musk's new prediction, as he simply said.

If the date slips further into the 2030s it would coincide with NASA's plans to send humans to Mars anyways, which is sure to give Musk a bit of anxiety considering the space race he has been in with Jeff Bezos and Blue Origin.

Predictably Unpredictable

Although the US Federal Aviation Administration has slowed Musk's launches in the past, it's nearly impossible to say whether or not his new estimate is accurate because of his own unreliability.

In the last week alone, Musk has been called out for threatening Russian President Putin with a flamethrower and sending out a racist and sexist message about the Ukrainian people. He offered to fight Putin in single combat over the invasion of Ukraine.

It's hard to imagine a guy like that taking much seriously, so we won't bet on whether Musk's Mars launch date is set in stone. The only thing predictable about Musk is that you never know what he will do next, so we will have to wait and see who gets to the Red Planet first.

Musk says that his company is so busy with Ukraine that it will delay his plane.
