Politics latest news: Vladimir Putin in 'total panic' about revolution in Moscow, says Boris Johnson - Ian Forsyth /Getty Images Europe

Boris Johnson said that Vladimir Putin was in a total panic about the possibility of a revolution in Moscow.

He is trying so brutally to snuff out the flame of freedom in Ukraine because he has been in a total panic about a so-called colour revolution in Moscow.

The end of freedom in Ukraine will mean the extinction of any hope of freedom in Georgia and then Moldova, it will mean the beginning of a new age of intimidation across eastern Europe from the Baltic to the Black Sea.

The Prime Minister did not approve of normalising relations with Mr Putin after the invasion of Ukraine.

This is a turning point for the world. He told the Conservative spring party conference that it was a choice between freedom and oppression.

It would be a mistake to try to normalise relations with Putin after this.

Johnson describes Putin as 'a backstreet pusher'

The Prime Minister has described Putin as a backstreet pusher, feeding addiction, and creating dependence on Russia's gas and oil, leading to the cost of living crisis.

Boris Johnson told the conference that Putin's war was intended to cause economic damage to the west.

He knows that with every dollar increase in the price of a barrel of oil, he gets billions more in revenues from the sales of either oil and gas, and that is the tragedy of the situation.

He wants to weaken the collective will to resist by pushing up the cost of living, hitting us at the pumps and in our fuel bills, so we must respond.

He said that the Government must continue to do everything they can to help people, and also make sure that the economy is strong and that there are well-paid jobs.

12:38 PM

'It’s the Conservatives who stand up for freedom'

The Prime Minister said that it was the Conservatives who stood up for freedom and against the blackmail of Putin.

It's only by sticking up for freedom that we can deliver long term prosperity and security.

Nicola Sturgeon has 'no positive ideas': Douglas Ross

According to Simon Johnson, Douglas Ross argued that the SNP has no positive ideas to help Scotland.

He says his party wants to replace them in government at the next Holyrood election rather than being the main opposition party.

People are concerned about the cost-of-living crisis, long waiting times in the health service, and the education we are giving to the next generation.

They all know that independence isn't the answer to the problems.

I didn't hear anyone say they wanted an independence referendum next year. Not once.

They want a government that is focused on the health service, jobs, and education.

There are so many people looking for someone who can beat the government and remove them from Bute House.

Being the largest opposition is not enough.

End dependence on Putin's oil and gas: Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson wants nations to end their dependence on Russian oil and gas in order to help Putin squeeze the Western cost of living.

There is a cost to our sanctions. The PM said that the cost of doing nothing would be much higher.

Putin wants to weaken the collective will to resist by pushing up the cost of living. We were hit at the pumps and fuel bills.

It is time to take control of our energy supplies.

Boris Johnson rejects renormalisation of relations with Putin

Boris Johnson was against normalising relations with Putin even after the end of his invasion of Ukraine.

This is a turning point for the world. He said it was a choice between freedom and oppression.

It would be a mistake to try to normalise relations with Putin after this.

I know that the people of this country choose freedom every time.

Putin afraid of Ukrainian freedom: Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson said that Putin fears free societies.

The Prime Minister told the Ukrainian ambassador that the Prime Minister stood with the Ukrainian people.

He didn't really believe the guff he wrote about the origins of the Russian people. I don't know if you read it. He joked that Nostradamus met Russian Wikipedia.

He was scared of Ukraine because they have free press. They have free elections. He feared the Ukrainian example and the implicit reproach to himself because of the progress of freedom and democracy there.

If you stand against Putin in an election, you get poisoned or shot, because in Russia you get 15 years for calling an invasion.

Mr Johnson said that Mr Putin was in total panic about the possibility of a revolution in Moscow.

Putin 'shattered our post-Cold War complacency'

According to our chief political correspondent, the invasion of Ukraine has shattered our post-Cold War complacency.

She told delegates that she has heard some people in Ukranian use British military equipment, and that she will not rest until they get their sovereignty back.

When we face a tyrant like Putin, the only thing he understands is strength.

She told delegates that now is the time to end the culture of self-doubt, the constant self-questioning, and the ludicrous debates about languages, statues and pronouns. Our history is what makes us who we are today.

'This crisis has shown the strength of the free world'

Liz Truss used her speech to reiterate the Conservative commitment to freedom.

She said that the crisis has shown the strength of the free world.

We live in a great country, a great democracy and should be proud of it.

Ms Truss said that Putin must fail and with Britain at the front, we will ensure he does.

'We stand up for freedom': Liz Truss

The Foreign Secretary has vowed to stand by the country until their sovereignty is restored.

We stand up for freedom. We fight back. She said that we galvanise our allies around the world.

Alister Jack praises Freeports scheme

Alister Jack was able to convince the SNP to back the UK Government's scheme with two to be delivered in Scotland.

It would have been nice if all parties in Scotland would accept it. He renewed his attack on the Scottish Greens, saying there is still one that doesn't.

It shows how irresponsible it was for the SNP to invite a party that is against economic growth into government.

Even some people in the SNP are starting to realize what a mistake it was.

11:35 AM

Scotland rightly expects their two governments to work together: Alister Jack

Scottish Secretary Alister Jack is giving a speech in Aberdeen.

The people of Scotland expect their governments to work together because they know it is the best way to get devolution. It is not always easy to work with the Scottish Government.

It can be difficult to deliver the benefits of devolution alongside a Nationalist administration in Edinburgh that does not believe in devolution.

The politics of the administration demand constant irritation with the UK Government and a fresh complaint every morning. They know how to make a grievance even though they can't manufacture a ferry.

11:33 AM

'Arrogant' Putin responsible for deaths of Russians

Wallace compared Putin to the leader of Argentina in the 1980's.

He said that Mr Putin had sent young soldiers to die for political reasons.

The casualties and attrition among the Russian army have been caused by Putin's arrogant assumptions, according to Mr Wallace.

The Kremlin thought that Ukraine wouldn't fight. The Kremlin thought his army was impervious.

They assumed the international community would break up.

During the soviet war in Afghanistan, the mothers of those killed in action called their sons dead because of the metal coffins they used, according to Mr Wallace.

Despite the international community's calls for peace, the Russian president chose zinc.

Priti Patel defends refugee checks

It isnaive to think that only men can pose a threat to the UK's security as she warns of heightened threat of chemical, biological and cyber attacks from Russia.

She said that she had been asked why security checks couldn't be suspended for people escaping Putin's war.

The need to remain watchful is emphasized by the times of conflict. I know from the briefings I receive from the intelligence and security services that instability around the world brings with it greater threats.

Four years ago, the Russian military intelligence services used a chemical weapon on British soil in Salisbury, which would have made the inhabitants feel safe.

Russia has a history of covert, hostile activity and a very small number of people can wreak havoc.

It is naive and misguided to think that only men can be covert operatives or that refugee flows would not be subject to exploitation.

There are people who would come to our country, to this country, who would mean harm and plot to strike at our way of life.

Illegal entry will 'impact on asylum claims' announces Priti Patel

Illegal entry to the UK will have an impact on asylum claims.

Access to the UK's asylum system should be based on need, not ability to pay people smugglers. She said that if you enter the UK illegally, via a safe country where you could have claimed asylum, you are not seeking refuge from peril, but picking the UK as a preferred destination.

For the first time, whether you enter the UK legally or illegally will have an impact on how your asylum claim progresses and on your status in the UK if your claim is successful.

The maximum sentence for people smuggler will increase from 15 years to life.

'We will open our homes and hearts to Ukrainians'

The UK is open to Ukrainian refugees according to Priti Patel.

She said that the British government and the people of the United Kingdom are determined that Putin will fail in his war and that they will open their homes and hearts to Ukrainians.

We will always stand for freedom and the values that are fundamental to our way of life.

The United Kingdom stands with the Ukrainians in their time of need.

Priti Patel pays tribute to Polish response to refugee crisis

Home Secretary Priti Patel has praised Poland for its response to the refugee crisis.

A few weeks ago I was on the Polish border. She said that what she saw was a human tragedy on a heart-breaking and unprecedented scale.

The response of our friends in Poland was incredible. The government, volunteers, and others have all responded to welcome and manage refugees.

I witnessed the most remarkable humanitarian work from the people of Poland. It broke my heart.

UK is 'self-sufficient' when it comes to wheat

George Eustice highlighted the need to keep supply chains open in order to ensure the world can remain fed despite the invasion of Ukraine.

He said that the determination to get this year's crop in the ground shows that Ukraine is a country that believes in its future.

There is over 200 million tonnes of wheat in storage around the world. Those who operate the market need to be able to move stocks around freely in order to satisfy global demand.

The UK is largely self-sufficient in wheat production, but we are working with like-minded countries around the world to ensure the free flow continues.

George Eustice hails Ukrainian 'tenacity'

The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs paid tribute to Ukrainians and the country's farmers at the beginning of the second day of the Conservative spring conference.

In recent weeks, we have all been moved by the bravery of the Ukrainian army, the incredible courage of the president of Ukraine, and the resilience of the Ukrainian people.

The sight of Ukrainian farmers towing away Russian tanks with their tractor is one of the many symbols of Ukraine's extraordinary tenacity.

Government 'revolted' by P&O sackings

The actions of P&O Ferries in firing 800 staff was denounced by the Conservative Party chairman.

He told Times Radio that the Government was trying to figure out if the move was legal.

The Transport Secretary has asked the Insolvency Service to look at the notification requirements and see whether further action is appropriate.

All of us feel a revulsion at the kind of practices from P&O.

The Government is reviewing all of its contracts with P&O Ferries and its owner.

The Government is considering very closely its relationship with them.
