The fashion choices of three cosmonauts who just arrived at the International Space Station are raising some eyebrows.

The Prichal module was docked with the Russian spaceship at 3:12 p.m. today. The time is 1912. The hatch between the two vehicles opened about 2.5 hours later and three new crew members were on their way to greet their seven colleagues.

The hatch opening was surprising because Artemyev, Matveev and Korsakov were wearing bright yellow flight suits with blue highlights.

The International Space Station is being built.

During the hatch- opening ceremony, Artemyev was asked about the colors. He replied that there was a surplus of yellow fabric in the warehouse, according to the space exploration enthusiast who posted a thread about the exchange.

Not everyone is buying this answer. Some people with knowledge of spaceflight procedures think that it could be a show of support for Ukraine.

Scott Kelly, who flew a yearlong mission on the space station with another man in March of 2015, posted a message in both Russian and English today.

Wow. Wow. Terry Virts, a former NASA astronaut, said well done. He spent six months on the station in November and June of 2015.

There are other possible explanations for the flight suits. The colors of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University are close to the ones that Artemyev, Matveev and Korsakov all attended.

All we have to do at the moment is listen to Artemyev's response during the hatch- opening ceremony. Hopefully one of the cosmonauts will give some more information in the future.

None of the three newly arrived cosmonauts hails from Ukraine. Artemyev was born in Latvia, Matveev was born in St. Petersburg, and the other two were born in what is now Kyrgyzstan.
