Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic has declared that he is done yelling at referees and has found a way to not say anything when the whistle doesn't go his way.
After Friday night's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, Doncic said that he started singing a song in his head.
I think these last couple of games were great with officials. I just go to him and talk to him if I think I'm in trouble. That's all. It has to be this way.
One of the 15 technical fouls that Doncic has been called for this season, one of which was overturned after review by the league office, was the one that he said he decided between a Serbian song and a Slovenian one. He is two technical fouls shy of an automatic one-game suspension, which is levied when a player reaches 16 technicals during the regular season and every two technicals thereafter.
During the fourth quarter of the Mavs' March 9 home loss to the New York Knicks, Doncic was called for a technical foul after singing to himself before his free throws. He hasn't been called for a technical in four games.
Doncic avoided a suspension because of two technical fouls that were later reversed.
In his career, Doncic has acknowledged that he needs to control his emotions better during his interactions with officials. He told J.J. Redick that it would no longer be an issue.
Doncic said that he had a talk with himself and that it was unacceptable. I had a talk with myself and I just said that this cannot continue. It is a really bad look. I knew I was doing this, but I kept doing it. It is over now. I had a conversation with myself. No more, man.
