According to a report from CNBC, workers at the LDJ5 facility in Staten Island in New York City will vote on whether to join the Amazon Labor Union. The second Staten Island Amazon warehouse to have a union election will begin voting on March 25th.
The National Labor Relations Board will tally the results of the LDJ5 vote on May 2nd, according to CNBC.
It has been a long road to this election for workers at LDJ5. The warehouse was included in a workers' petition to the National Labor Relations Board, but the ALU withdrew it because it wanted to focus on JFK8. The new petition for LDJ5 was submitted by the union earlier this month.
Amazon has been accused of illegally fighting unions
The Staten Island facilities were accused of anti-union practices by the National Labor Relations Board. The labor watchdog has brought cases against the company for threatening, surveilled, and interrogated workers involved with organization efforts and even fired one in reprisal for his union activity. These accounts have been disputed by Amazon.
Amazon interfered with a union election in Alabama last year, which led to it ordering a do-over. According to CNBC, the votes will be counted on March 28th.
