South Carolina found a way to solve its fourth quarter problems. The only thing the Gamecocks needed to do was hold their opponent to the lowest point total in a women's NCAA tournament game.

Boston had a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards to lead the Gamecocks to a victory over Howard.

The Kansas State team scored 26 points in a loss to the University of Connecticut in 2012. The NCAA tournament record low four points in the first half was held by Howard as the Gamecocks took a 44-4 lead.

South Carolina coach Dawn Staley said that they defended.

It was a total mismatch. The Gamecocks had 30 offensive boards, which was six more than Howard. The Bison turned the ball over 20 times and were outmatched in the paint by 38 to 8.

Fourteen of the players who got into the game scored.

There are still some things for Staley to worry about. The off shooting night for the top seed was masked by the defense. The team shot 35% from the field and just 8-fo-38 on 3-pointers.

We can't have another game like we did and expect to win basketball games.

South Carolina has not been able to finish games. They lost to Kentucky in the SEC final after being down 21-7 in the fourth quarter.

At the end of the third quarter, the team was reminded of the importance of finishing games strong.

We have to keep building on this lead. We have to go out there and play hard and keep doing what we are doing.

South Carolina won 19-13.

Howard had eight points from Iyanna Warren.

It was the opportunity of a lifetime and not many people get to experience it. Warren said they were excited to play South Carolina on their home floor.

Ty Grace told her team that they can pay attention to how South Carolina handled them Friday and see how to take the next step after they proved they can be conference champions.

Grace said it was only up from here.

One of the biggest cheers of the second half came when Boston pulled down her 10th rebound in the third quarter.

South Carolina has allowed the lowest points in its history.
