The House bill seeks to promote public education on the history of Japanese Americans in World War II, including their imprisonment in internment camps.

The legislation was sponsored by Jay Obernolte, who is also a Republican.

The bill was introduced as H.R. 6434 and directed the Secretary of the Interior to establish a Japanese American World War II History Network within the National Park Service. The network will consist of all the units of the National Park Service related to Japanese American history and World War II.

The bill said that the experience will include the time in relocation centers and confinement sites. Advocates advise against their use due to their failure to capture the harsh conditions faced by those forced into them.

The Republicans who voted against the bill were Lauren Boebert, Mo Brooks, Michael Cloud, Louie Gohmert, Bob Good, Marjorie Taylor, and Andy Harris.

There were many reasons for the lawmakers to register their opposition. While LaMalfa generally supports the bill, there are concerns that a historical site in his district can't accommodate tourists at this time.

The House should prioritize other legislation. The matter will be handled by private and charitable entities, according to a Roy spokesman.

Japanese Americans were forced into concentration camps during World War II. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order.

The bill will be an important tool to ensure that the history of Japanese Americans is not forgotten.

Legislation was passed by the House to create a grant program to promote education on Japanese American incarceration.
