The Carolina panthers didn't get the quarterback they wanted, but they tied up their top wide receiver
DJ Moore agreed to a three-year extension on Friday, according to his agent. The guaranteed amount is $41.61 million.
Moore is tied to the Carolinas for $73 million over four years, an average of $18.25 million a year that is eighth in the league at his position.
He led the team with a career-high 93 catches for 1,157 yards and four touchdown.
A league source said that the extension was unrelated to the missing trade for Houston's Deshaun Watson, who would have carried a $35 million cap hit. According to sources, the panthers were told on Thursday night that they were no longer in the picture.
Moore, who was the 24th pick in the draft out of Maryland, had a fifth-year option on his contract. The extension was one of the priorities of the general manager.
Moore and Diggs are the only players in the past three seasons who have had more than 1,000 receiving yards.
Moore has 4,313 yards and 14 touchdown catches. He is fourth on the team in career receiving yards behind Steve Smith, Muhsin Muhammad and Greg Olsen.
Johnny Hekker, a former Los Angeles Rams punter, signed a three-year deal with the team. He was a member of the All-Decade team for the 2010s and has a career gross average of 46.7 yards. He has the longest punt in Super Bowl history.
