Voit was traded from the Yankees to the Padres on Friday, a day after New York completed a two-year contract with Anthony Rizzo.

The New York Yankees received the 34th overall pick in the 2020 amateur draft.

Voit, a right-handed hitter with power, led the major leagues with 22 home runs in the 2020 season, when the season was shortened by a disease.

He went to the injured list four times last year, three of them because of a left knee injury that required surgery in March. He was on the IL from May 27 to June 22 with a strained right oblique.

Voit hit 11 homers and 35 runs with the Yankees last season, and five of them were in the eighth or later. The New York Mets acquired a left-handed-hitting first baseman from the Chicago Cubs.

In nine starts last season for the Arizona Complex League Padres, he was 0-3 with a 6.97 earned run average, striking out 29 and walking 15.

The San Diego Padres placed right-handed pitcher Michel Baez on the 60-day injured list to clear a roster spot.
