The dependence on an internet connection is going to haunt the developers. Polyphony Digital and Sony extended maintenance beyond 24 hours to deal with the faulty 1.07 patch, which caused players to review bombing the Sony racing sim on Metacritic. As you need online access to play the core GT mode, some people are angry and the average Metacritic user review score sat at 3.6.

This isn't the only gripe. The creators of Gran Turismo 7 have been accused of making it harder to obtain new cars and upgrades without spending real money by some players. Some players have asked for full refunds.

It is not clear when GT7 will be online again. Polyphony said it would give a completion time as soon as possible. The producers will want to restore service quickly. The review bombing will only do limited damage to a well-known game that has already been available for weeks, but if one of the marquee games isn't even usable during the weekend, it won't look good.

Due to an issue found in Update 1.07, we will be extending the Server Maintenance period. We will notify everyone as soon as possible when this is likely to be completed. We apologize for this inconvenience and ask for your patience while we work to resolve the issue. #GT7
