The Senate passed a bill to make daylight saving time permanent. Americans no longer have to change their clocks twice a year.

Most of the year will stay the same because Daylight Saving Time runs from mid-March to early November. Daylight saving time means that the clock won't shift backward by an hour.

Most of the country would be affected by the late sun setting and rising in November to March.

The best part about the change would be not losing an hour of sleep when the weather warms up.

The changes wouldn't go into effect until 2023. The bill must still be passed by the House before it can go to the president for his signature. The White House has not said if Biden supports it. Nancy Pelosi's office said she was looking at the bill.

If the bill becomes law, what would it look like in Texas?

The earliest sunset in Fort Worth would be in early December and the latest sunrise would be in early January.

Congress restored standard time in August after people realized that children were leaving for school in the dark.

Opponents of the change have similar concerns. The National Association of Convenience Stores told Congress that kids should not go to school in the dark.

Daylight saving time has been used by most Americans since the 1960s. The first law to establish Daylight Saving Time in the US was enacted during World War I as a way to conserve fuel and extend the working day, according to Cheryl Lederle, a Library of Congress educational resource. The law was repealed a year after the war ended.

Daylight saving time was enacted again by Congress.

In 1986 and 2005, the period of daylight saving time was extended by several weeks.
