The New Mexico State Aggies upset the fifth-seeded University of Connecticut in the first round of the men's NCAA tournament on Thursday.

Teddy Allen, a junior guard, poured in a game-high 37 points to lead the way for the Aggies.

Iowa and Connecticut are the second and third seeds to go down on Thursday.

New Mexico State ran off 17 unanswered points over the final 6 minutes of the first half to take a 32-22 lead into halftime. After leading by as many as 14 early in the second half, the Aggies were forced to give up the lead.

The game was tied a couple times but never took the lead. The two teams were tied at 52, but Henry hit a three-pointer to put the game out of reach. The game was tied at 58 with just over two minutes left, but Allen hit a triple on the ensuing possession to put New Mexico State in front for good.

Allen was the only player on the team to score in double figures. New Mexico State was efficient from the outside, shooting 11-of-17. Allen was the only player on the team to shoot a perfect 13 of 13 from the free-throw line.

R.J. Cole scored 20 points for the University of Connecticut. The only other player with 10 points was Adama Sanogo. The Huskies struggled with their outside shot, connecting on just 7-of-23 three-point attempts.
