When he made his once-in-lifetime discovery while observing an engineering firm's construction project, he knew what he was looking at.

He always had an interest in fossils and pre-historic animals, and his two young sons also have an interest in dinosaurs.

The woolly mammoth tooth that he found was a rare find, and officials later confirmed that he had identified it.

He said that in the company's March 16 news release.

The engineering firm said that Blauwet was performing construction observation on a lift station project at the property owned by Northwest Iowa Community College.

The woolly mammoth tooth is something you don't find on campus every day.

Tiffany Adrain with the University of Iowa was contacted by employees of DGR Engineering for confirmation.

The bones and teeth of mammoths can fall apart and disappear quickly if they are not completely fossilized, according to Adrain.

The tooth is 11 inches by 7 inches and weighed in at 11 pounds.

Chris Widga, head curator at East Tennessee State University, said in the news release that the animal was an upper 3rd molar.

According to the news release, the tooth has been in the ground for over 20,000 years.

Measures are being taken to protect the tooth from drying out too quickly.

The tooth will be donated to the museum by the university.

Throughout the past half-century,NCC has forged many connections with its communities. The connection between our campus property and the prehistoric era of the retreating glaciers was uncovered when the woolly mammoth tooth was discovered.

The artifact will be displayed at the College for special occasions, but we will house it in the museum.

The tooth is coming soon, according to the museum.
