Davante Adams wanted a fresh start.

The veteran wide receiver, who was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, reportedly had the same contract offer of five years and $141.25 million from the Green Bay Packers, but he preferred to move on from the franchise.

The Packers placed the franchise tag on Adams before the March 8 deadline after the two sides failed to come to terms on a long-term extension.

Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported Monday that the two sides were far apart on a contract extension.

They made progress on a deal, but Adams preferred to play in Las Vegas.

Prior to the trade, the five-time Pro Bowler had spent his entire eight-year career in Green Bay. He recorded two of his best seasons in 2020 and 2021.

Adams caught 123 passes for 1,553 yards and 11 touchdown. He had a career-high 18 touchdown in the previous season.

Adams preferred to join the Raiders. They have a natural connection because he played with Carr at Fresno State. Carr said over the summer that he was going to do whatever it took to get his former college teammate in Las Vegas.

This was Derek Carr last year talking about Davante Adams: “I said I’m gonna full-court press the guy when he’s a free agent. There’s no doubt. I’ll buy him a car. Whatever I gotta do. He’d fit in so well with our guys.”They’re now together.

A number of changes have been made by the Raiders in order to improve. They signed several players and traded for Rock Ya-Sin.

The AFC West is expected to be one of the toughest divisions. The Denver Broncos added Russell Wilson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks; the Kansas City Chiefs still have Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill andTravis Kelce; and the Los Angeles Clippers have added J.C. Jackson, among others.

The Raiders are hoping that the addition of Adams will pay off. It will be the most disappointing season since moving to Las Vegas if they miss the playoffs again.
