The fifth-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes were upset by the 13th-seeded Spiders in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Since seeding began, it has been the case that it was the ninth victory as a No. 12 seed.

The only other team with more than four is them.

Jacob Gilyard said that the team probably thought it could win last Thursday. It is difficult to try and guard us. We are a fairly confident group, and I think last weekend showed that, and I don't think anyone doesn't believe in each other.

Gilyard scored 24 points and Tyler Burton had 18 points and 11 rebound for the Spiders. The Spiders improved their NCAA tourney record against fifth-seeded teams to 4-0, as Nathan Cayo had 15 points, including a couple of big baskets down the stretch.

The Spiders held the Hawkeyes to just 28 first-half points, giving them plenty of issues. Iowa's 16-game streak of scoring 70 points or more was the longest active streak in Division I.

The Iowa team came into the game with an average of 83.8 points per game.

The Big Ten Player of the Year, who averaged 23.6 points per game, finished with 21 points for the Hawkeyes.

Gilyard said that they were not too scared to play at their pace. I think we did a good job as a team despite the fact that it was going to be difficult to guard Keegan.

Murray was 6-of-13 on shots that were in play. He went 0-of-5 shooting outside the paint, and at one point was held without a point for 15 minutes.

Murray said it was nothing new to him that they brought a lot of guys whenever he was driving to the basket or in the paint. I feel like I didn't have to score a lot of points this game.

The Big Ten tournament champion has lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament twice.

McCaffery has the worst tournament win percentage of any Big Ten coach with more than five NCAA tournament games coached.
