Stephen A. Smith says that the weakest link on the offense could be replaceable. (1:32)

In the best interests of both sides, Baker Mayfield requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, according to Adam Schefter.

The relationship is too far gone for both sides to move on. It is in the best interests of both sides to move on.

A source told Jake Trotter that the Browns are not accommodating his request.

On the same day that the Browns learned they were out of the running to acquire quarterback Deshaun Watson in a trade from the Houston Texans, they received a request from their top pick, Baker Mayfield.

In the past week, the Browns were one of four teams to meet with the quarterback to gauge his interest in waiving his no-trade clause, but now face significant uncertainty at the position.

Trotter was told by a source that the Browns would prefer to move forward with Mayfield. Cleveland may have to trade the former Heisman Trophy winner.

A source told Jeremy Fowler that the Colts are in the market for a quarterback after trading Carson Wentz to the Commanders, and that they believe they have a good chance for him to win.

As Cleveland officials were flying back from their meeting Tuesday night with Watson, they posted a statement on social media thanking the city of Cleveland and its fans who truly embraced who I am.

With many uncertainties, here is where my head and heart is, and that is what I wrote in my message to Cleveland.

Trotter was told by a source that the Mayfield camp was aware of the meeting between the Browns and the Indians on social media.

During his first three seasons in the league, he played under four head coaches. The Cleveland Indians won their first playoff victory in 26 years in the 2020 season and finished in the top 10 in the league in QBR.

In Week 2 of this past season, Mayfield tore his labrum in his non-throwing shoulder, and he struggled the rest of the way, finishing 27th in QBR as the Browns missed the playoffs and finished with a disappointing 8-9 record.

The final year of his contract, which will pay him $19 million, will be the year that he is fully recovered from his surgery to repair the labrum.

Jake Trotter contributed to the report.
