The Norwegian Cruise Line named pop star Katy Perry as the god of the new ship.
She will perform before the Norwegian Prima leaves on its inaugural voyages from Reykjavx on August 27. The first major ship in the capital will be christened.

NCL President and CEO Harry Sommer said he wanted to showcase the ship with an exciting godmother and christened location when he announced the selection in Las Vegas.
He said that they want to be at the cutting edge and do things that are exciting. We want the best entertainment we can find. We want to go somewhere exciting. When I tell people to come to the country, they want to go. Anyone can do a christening in Miami. We want to go somewhere special that people want to be.

She told the travel press that she was excited to serve as the godmother of a major cruise ship.

The first of six 142,500-gross-ton, 3,215-passenger ships in the class will offer inaugural voyages to Northern Europe. Caribbean itineraries from Miami and Galveston will start on October 27.

Sommer saw the vessel at the shipyard in Marghera, Italy.
The ship looks amazing, he said. Lots of great outdoor spaces, an upscale feel to her, and tons and tons of dining options.
The ship's highlights include Ocean Boulevard, which has multiple pools and glass bridges with ocean and destination views. The brand has a first upscale international open-air dining marketplace. The Concourse will feature an outdoor sculpture garden with installations by David Harber and Alexander Krivosheiw.
The Haven By Norwegian will feature a new outdoor spa with a glass roof, as well as a new luxury suite complex, designed by the master architects at Piero Lissoni.
The Metropolitan, NCL's first sustainable focused lounge, and its ultra-upscale Mediterranean seafood specialty restaurant are available on Norwegian Prima and Viva.
To celebrate the partnership, NCL has put together a celebratory Spotify playlist.
