Some flights to and from India have been diverted due to the closing of Russian airspace for US airlines. The United States and India had flights canceled on March 2nd to avoid flying over the Russian airspace. Three of United's four routes between India and the US have been resumed, but the following flights completely avoid the Russian airspace. There were no flights between Newark and Mumbai. Both United and American Airlines flights from Delhi and Newark/New York are affected. The flights are currently in Bangor, Maine. 2.5 hours was added to the flight time. The flight time had already been revised based on an indirect route avoiding Russian airspace. The delay using Russian airspace is now 4-5 hours longer than it was in the past. Air India flies from Delhi to New York over the Russian airspace. The average flight time is 17 minutes. United flies from Delhi to Chicago non-stop for 17 hours. The Delhi to Newark flight has a tech stop in Bangor, whereas the Chicago flight does not. Both Chicago and Newark flights avoided Afghanistan and Russian airspace. Air India continues to operate non-stop flights from Delhi to Chicago over Russian Airspace with an average flight time of 14 hours 49 minutes. It seems the West Coast direct flight from India isn't affected as much as the East Coast flights. The flight time doesn't seem to be long despite United re-routing its flights from Delhi to San Francisco. The flight time between the flights was close to the same, with United edging by a quarter-hour.
