The new Mac Studio will be arriving this Friday. Ahead of the launch, Matthew Panzarino spoke with a trio of senior Apple employees about the process of designing the Mac Studio.

Just like the Mac Pro tower was released late in the year, the Mac Studio was created by Apple after they apologized to pro users and ensured that they remained committed to the Mac.

Tom Boger, vice president of Mac and iPad product marketing at Apple, said that they look at Mac Studio for what it is, a completely new Mac product line. Allow it to live on people's desks so it's easy to reach.

The director of product marketing for the Pro Apps team at Apple told Panzarino that creative and pro users wanted a system that sat between the iMac and the Mac Pro in Apple's desktop.

The way we look at it is that we are happy to provide multiple ways for our users to work. That is the way that you choose to work. Users prefer to have their desktop on their desk.

Apple listened to customer feedback and designed the computer to make it easy to access all of the ports on the back and front of the machine.

The IO is on the front and you can just spin it around if you need to. We are giving users something they have never had before. They have always had to trade off. I had to give up performance in order to get a smaller form factor computer. We wanted to give people something where they don't have to do that.

The Mac Studio was a fun challenge in that it was able to fit the M1 Ultra chip into a more compact form factor with optimal thermal management.

The team did hundreds of thermal simulations to try to figure out what the best pattern of air flow through the system would be for performance and acoustics.

The studio display was supposed to be a very accessible, mainstream display for all of the Mac users.

If you want to hook up to the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro, or whatever, it is a great display.

Apple issued a statement indicating that it will be making improvements in a future software update after many reviewers found the Studio Display's webcam quality to be unsatisfactory. The update was not given a time frame.

Ahead of the Friday launch of the Mac Studio and Studio Display, we rounded up reviews of both products to give you a closer look.
