The next-generation Granismo sports car, an electric version of the best-selling Levante SUV, and several other luxury sports cars and convertibles will be part of the all-electric range of vehicles announced by Maserati. The company said it would offer electric versions of all of its models by 2025.
In a press conference with reporters, Davide Grasso, CEO of Maserati, said that the company will aim to completely phase-out sales of its internal-combustion engine vehicles by the year 2030.
Grasso said that the target date was 2030.
“That’s the landing spot”
With that timetable in mind, Maserati claims to be the first luxury brand to complete its electric lineup by 2025. The first model of the Taycan has already been released. The shift to electrification has been slower among luxury cars, as they still place a premium on noisy V8 and V12 engines.
For a long time, Maserati was the same. The company has been talking about making an electric car for a while but has never actually done it. This is likely due to the apathetic attitude of its parent company, which, under the leadership of the late Sergio Marchionne, largely ignored EVs.
The range of electric models include battery-powered versions of the Granismo sports car and the GranCabriolet convertible, as well as an unnamed electric sports car and an electric SUV. The hybrid version of the Ghibli will only be sold in Europe.
The plans are coming more into focus. The first EV to come from the Folgore product lineup will be the GranTurismo. The electric sports car will be produced at the Mirafiori plant in Torino, Italy, which recently received a 700 million euro upgrade to prepare it for production of electric vehicles. The GranTurismo will go on sale in 2023.
The electric GranTurismo will have a top speed of 300 mph and a 1,200-hp output. The vehicle will be made from lightweight material. Three distinct electric motors will enable the best in class handling.
the electric GranTurismo sounds like it will be a high-performance beast
The Grecale SUV will be unveiled later this month. The vehicle is expected to go on sale in 2023. The Grecale will be a benchmark in terms of range, performance, acceleration, charging time, top speed and everything, according to Francesco Tonon, global head of product planning.
The MC20 Spyder, a sister vehicle to the automaker's ultra-luxury sports car, is one of the vehicles that will be filled out in the coming months.
The loss of noisy engines is one of the key characteristics of sports car brands. Some manufacturers have added artificial sounds to account for the absence of a growling internal-combustion engine.
The company confirmed that it will be developing Level 3 technology for its Quattroporte sedan, which will allow the vehicle to drive itself on certain roads, most likely highways.
Someone may think that we are not considering self driving because it is a car for drivers.
