A Russian vessel carrying 8,000 tons of product was denied a request to dock at the easternmost tip of the United States.

The operator of the ship asked to dock in Eastport because they were turned away from a port on the St. Lawrence Seaway.

The short-notice request from the ship was rejected by Eastport.

The 2004-built cargo ship, called the Fesco Uliss, was not allowed to tie up in Eastport because it was not in the best interests of the organization.

The crew of the vessel asked if Eastport could take them for a few days because they had issues with their stop on the St. Lawrence Seaway in Canada.

In this industry, that is extremely short notice, and there are a lot of unknowns.

The Fesco Uliss was carrying bags of solid pitch, a product used in industry, but Eastport had never handled that material before. He said that the ship was asking about warehouse space and that it was unclear when and where the product would go.

The decision to deny the ship permission to tie up in Eastport was based on a number of factors, including the short notice, the material, the uncertainty over the cargo's destination, and the fact that President Biden had announced sanctions against Russian businesses just days before.

Business at the port has been slow due to the impact on shipping of the coronaviruses, but it is not that we wouldn't have welcomed the business, but the unknowns led to the decision to refuse to allow.

He said that a ship asking to use the port when it is headed elsewhere is not a common practice.

It does happen, but not very often.

A general cargo ship is the Fesco Uliss. According to the website marinetraffic.com, it operates under the Russian flag and is located in Russia.

According to marinetraffic.com, the Fesco Uliss is a short distance off the port city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. After being denied access to the port at Eastport, the ship was headed to that location, but he doesn't know if it stopped anywhere else along the way.
