Chris Godwin agreed to a three-year, $60 million contract extension on Wednesday, according to Adam Schefter.

The deal includes 40 million dollars in guaranteed money.

The franchise tag was placed on the wideout.

He was drafted in the third round of the 2017 draft and has spent his first five seasons with the Buccaneers. He had 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdown in 14 games before he tore his knee and ended his season.

After emerging as one of the most sure-handed receivers in football and a trusted underneath option for Tom Brady, Godwin seemed destined to cash out on the open market, though his knee injury complicated his status. He was rewarded with a nice multiyear deal by the Buccaneers.

The injury gave him less than a nine-month recovery period. The recovery time for an injured knee is on the early side of the most elite athletes recovery window.

Godwin's game is not dependent on big downfield speed or athletic ability. He is an excellent route-runner who has done a lot of his best work out of the slot.

There is no reason to believe he will be the same player as last season.
