More Bike Week 2022 news:

During Bike Week in 2021, eight bikers were killed, making it a record-breaking week. There were more than 90 bikers who suffered traumatic injuries at that event.

Six bikers lost their lives in 2020.

Weather played a role

The number of injuries was affected by the weather at the beginning of the event.

The beautiful weather made people more active, so we would have had traumas anyway.

Most of the bikers brought to the trauma unit were from out of state.

24 of the injured were from Volusia County.

No bikers died in the hospital this year.

FHP worked 28 crashes in Volusia County

According to Kim Montes, the Florida Highway Patrol worked 28 motorcycle crashes. 3 people were killed in the two deaths that resulted.

Figures released by the Florida Highway Patrol on Tuesday were preliminary and could possibly change when the agency is finished gathering data, Montes said.

The first two deaths for Bike Week were worked by FHP. A car drove into the wrong lane on West New York andEauClaire avenues near DeLand.

The driver and passenger of the car were killed and the rider of the second motorcycle was seriously injured in the crash.

On March 9, a deputy came upon a motorcycle that ran off the road at Pioneer Trail. The motorcycle rider was thrown into the bushes where he died after hitting a culvert.

Port Orange police worked the third biker death in a crash on Dunlawton Avenue. The troopers said a Palm Coast man was killed.

On the last day of Bike Week, Daytona police worked the fifth motorcycle fatality in the county, when a New Beach man died when his motorcycle crashed into a pickup at the intersection of Ridgewood and Mason avenues.
