Kris Bryant, who played for the San Francisco Giants, is on the move.
Jon Heyman of the MLB Network reported that Bryant agreed to a seven-year deal with the Colorado Rockies.
According to the New York Post, the contract includes a no-trade clause.
The Giants and Dodgers were in a battle for the NL West title last season, and both teams made big moves before the July 30 trade deadline.
The Dodgers made the first move by acquiring Turner and Scherzer from the Nationals.
San Francisco sent Alexander Canario andCaleb Kilian to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Bryant. He played well with his new team, posting a.262/.344/.444 slash line and seven homers in 187 at-bats.
Bryant had a nice return to form after a down 2020. He hit.265/.353/.481 with 25 homers, 73 RBI and 10 stolen bases in his time with the Cubs and Giants.
Bryant has been an above-average offensive player over the past four seasons despite not being at his peak. The four-time All-Star has a 122 OPS+ in over 400 games.
Bryant has not had a significant issue withDurability throughout his career. He missed 60 games in the last two years, but has played more than 100 games in each of the last five seasons.
There is a potential transition period for the Giants. The 12-year career of Buster Posey has come to an end.
Bryant gets a fresh start with a new team. The 30-year-old will be an anchor in the middle of the Rockies lineup as he attempts to help them return to relevance.
The Rockies are not clear what they are trying to do.
After trading Nolan Arenado, it seemed like Colorado would go all-in on rebuilding. The front office didn't want to move Jon Gray before the deadline.
The Texas Rangers signed Gray as a free agent. Story is a free agent.
The pitching staff is a mess. None of the returning starters had an ERA under 4.33 in 2021. Their projected closer is Carlos Estevez, who had a 4.38 ERA and allowed 71 hits in 61.2 appearances last season.
Adding Bryant helps the Rockies, but their overall roster talent is still not good enough to compete with the Dodgers, Giants, and Padres in the NL West.
