The A6 Avant E-tron is a luxury executive car that appears to be close to production-ready.

Last year, we were surprised by a concept version of the all-electric A6 sedan, which will be built on a new EV platform. The two Volkswagen group companies are calling the new EV architecture Premium Platform Electric. They first started talking about it a few years ago, and it is slated to power the larger vehicles in the future.

It’s also at least Audi’s fourth distinct platform for its EVs

It is at least the fourth platform for its EV. The original E-tron and E-tron Sportback had batteries and electric motors. The E-tron GT is powered by the J1 platform. The Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-tron are built on Volkswagen's modular MEB platform.

The A6 Avant E-tron is the first tangible look at future production models that will be built on the PPE platform.

A lot of this won't matter to customers, as it's not like these cars will say they're powered byPorsche on the steering wheel or the exterior badging. As it tries to break into the EV market, the Volkswagen Group has a lot of resources and is trying to leverage them.

The A6 Avant E-tron is a production-oriented car, meaning it is likely destined for the assembly line.

The A6 Avant E-tron will be the longest-range EV to date, with 700 kilometers of estimated range using the European WLTP standard, depending on the drive system and model variant. The sportback will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. It can take in enough electrons in just 10 minutes at a fast-charging station to drive about 300 kilometers.

The A6 Avant E-tron will be similar in size to the Audi A6 and A7

The A6 E-tron is similar in size to the A6 and A7, at over 16 feet long, 6.4 feet wide, and 4.7 feet tall. The profile of the wagon looks sleek, and is hoping to squeeze some extra range out of its aerodynamic design. The shape is meant to reduce aerodynamic drag, with Mercedes-Benz claiming a record-setting 0.20 drag coefficient for the EQS sedan.

The A6 E-tron will feature the same headlights as the A6 E-tron concept, but they are only available outside the US. These lights, which use a complex shutter system to sculpt the LED light into specific shapes and animations, can now project an audi-developed video game on a nearby wall or garage door.

There are four projectors in the corners of the vehicle. Three of them are embedded in each side of the car's bodywork, and they can do a lot of things.

The A6 E-tron is not a vision of the future where rolling luxury lounges are a thing. It's a more grounded look at what's coming around the corner, namely sleek, well-crafted, expertly appointed luxury EV that are elegant and spacious enough to serve as chauffeured vehicles for 1 percenters.
