The President of the U krainian made an emotional appeal to congress to provide more military in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

Ladies and gentlemen. They are friends. Americans. Zelensky spoke to the hundreds of lawmakers who crowded into the auditorium of the Capitol Visitors Center. Our country experiences the same every day, every night, for three weeks now.

The designation of Ukrainian airspace as a no-fly zone was one of the things the Ukrainian leader pushed for. Some Republicans who supported former GOP President Donald Trump are asking for some of the most aggressive response tactics against the Russian President, because they were torn on how to respond after the speech.

Requests to shut down in the skies are compelling. Zelensky spoke after Congressman Earl Blumenauer told reporters that every one of them were concerned about the situation.

Zelensky predicted the reaction from lawmakers when he pushed for safe airspace. He offered an alternative that could shoot down aircrafts: the delivery of as many S-300 missiles.

Volodymyr Zelensky defendedUkraine and the world.

Zelensky's negotiating tactic of asking for something lawmakers wouldn't feel comfortable with, and then immediately suggesting a less zealous alternative, was applauded by Rep. Tom Malinowski, a New Jersey Democrat.

More than $13 billion in aid to Ukraine was included in a spending package that Congress passed last week. The White House says the additional $800 million in security assistance will include anti-aircraft systems, drones, grenade launchers, and other weapons and armor.

Lawmakers were supportive of the delivery of more military weapons and aircraft to Ukraine after Zelensky said so. She called for the Biden Administration to step up its response after she said Zelensky's speech made her want to throw on my uniform and go help. She said that they were going to transfer F16s to Poland and make sure they got to you.

A week ago, the U.S. was ready to go ahead with a deal that would have allowed the U.S. to replenish the Polish Air Force. The deal fell through when Poland asked the U.S. to route the jets through Germany.

The more compelling need is to provide them with the means to shoot down Russian aircraft, according to Rep. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat and chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell of Kentucky agreed with several Democrats who argued in favor of providing Ukraine with air defense missiles.

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle became emotional after Zelensky spoke. Some people cried. Zelensky said that American lawmakers shouldn't have to think about what it would be like to be under siege.

After 9/11, the construction of the annexed portion of the Capitol Complex was expedited and its funding was increased to provide more security for lawmakers.
