700 members of the National Guard were prepared to assist the police. The drivers did not protest that night. The fence has been taken down.

The public tours of the Capitol have been closed since the outbreak of Covid. The Senate has been allowed to give small public tours in a limited area on the Senate side, with a limit of two tours per week.

The office of Marshall said that the tour complied with the exception.

A Capitol Police spokesman said this week that the department is working to come up with a safe plan to reopen the building. The force has lost more than 100 officers.

Hard-working Kansans deserve access to the U.S. Capitol. Marshall supports reopening the Capitol to the public.

The convoy is protesting Covid restrictions. Legislation sponsored by Marshall was approved by the Senate this month, ending a Covid-inspired national state of emergency.

Concerns about the Capitol's safety have been raised after the Jan. 6, 2021 riot.

The senior congressional aide overheard a Capitol Hill police officer complain about the truckers being allowed in the Capitol. He reported the tour to the Justice Department.

The Capitol Hill police wouldn't comment.

While the trucks with the convoy have been mostly circling the Beltway to disrupt traffic, on Monday they drove through parts of downtown Washington. The National Park Service partially denied their request to hold a two week rally on the National Mall.

The co-organizer of People's Convoy said that they were getting right next to their walls.

The participants in the convoy met with several members of Congress this month and threatened to keep going until their demands to drop Covid restrictions are met. The office of Johnson did not offer tours to participants. A Cruz spokesman didn't respond to a request for comment.
