  • The Isle of Man deregistered a helicopter and 17 Russian jets.

  • The report said that the chopper had previously landed on a $600 million superyacht.

  • The Isle of Man has a jurisdiction that allows the superrich to avoid taxes.

The Isle of Man, a tax haven for the super wealthy, removed the registration of a helicopter and 17 private jets that were linked to a Russian billionaire.

The island is located in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland and has an aircraft registry that includes high-quality private and corporate jets.

The wealthy can avoid taxes in other countries with the help of the island's registry. The Isle of Man is a low-tax economy.

The Isle of Man's measures bolster the UK's and European Union's ban on all Russian aircraft flying in their airspace as part of sanctions levied following President Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

The Isle of Man said in a press release that 18 aircraft and two yachts were deregistered because of their Russian connections. Notices were issued on 39 ships with ties to Russia.

Alex Allinson, the Isle of Man's minister for enterprise, said that ships and jets can't legally fly.

The helicopter that landed on the $600 million superyacht, Solaris, has been removed from the island's registry, according to The Guardian. 18 aircraft were taken off the registry, including a private jet owned by the Russian billionaire, the newspaper reported.

The founder of a Russian online bank, who hasn't been sanctioned, had his jet hit from the island's registry, according to The Guardian.

Allinson said in a statement sent to Insider that the Air and Ship Registries have been acting quickly to halt business with Russian connections above and beyond those already on the UK's lists. He said that the government wants to remove any aircraft, ships, and yachts that have Russian ties.
