The Kansas City Royals announced on Wednesday that they had signed a one-year deal with former Cy Young pitcher Zack Greinke.
Sources told Jeff Passan that the contract is worth $13 million.
During his 18 years in the majors, Greinke earned six Gold Gloves. The veteran righty earned a Cy Young Award in 2009, while he was with the Royals.
Greinke spent the past three seasons with the Astros, posting a 3.89 earned run average in 52 games. He made three appearances for the Astros in the playoffs, including a four-inning start in the World Series against the Atlanta Braves.
He had signed a six-year contract with the D-backs in the summer of 2015. Greinke was traded by Arizona to the Astros.
Greinke made his MLB debut in May 2004. He spent seven seasons with Kansas City before moving on to other teams.
