Sometimes you just want to keep your friends from following you because they work in tech, and sometimes you just want to keep your friends from following you because you think Shake is the most annoying reality TV. Maybe that is just me.

A feature that would allow users to limit their audience to a small group of followers was teased last year. This product is called Circle and it's similar to anInstagram close friends story.

Twitter Circle has been leaked by researchers already (h/t @nima_owji), but we haven't seen it live yet. I got these pop-ups earlier, but couldn't click past "got it" on the second screen — I asked Twitter about it and they said it's probably a bug! So… coming soon maybe? pic.twitter.com/uced5XZP21

We were prompted to set up our Twitter Circle to share with a smaller crowd of up to 150 people. People won't be notified if you remove circles if you change them on the screen. The same screens were leaked last week by Nima Owji, but we were unable to navigate to the second screen of the process.

We asked if we could set up a circle since the feature hasn't been rolled out, and the spokesman said we probably received the pop-up as a result of a bug. It might indicate that we will get our close friends story circles soon if the accidental bug that is being worked on is not fatal. It doesn't mean that a feature is here forever, even if it is tested or rolled out.

Through newer features like Communities and the option to limit replies to your tweets, users are given more control over who they see and engage with. Super Follows allows you to paywall your spiciest content. In some ways, the joy and horror of the service is that it is like a public square of the internet, and introducing more of these features might make it feel weird to share your feelings. Users already know that when they post, they are making theirnermost thoughts public. Historically, if you want to make a more private space to shout into the void, you have to create a private account, which you only share with your inner circle. It would be easier to switch between the two audiences with a feature like circles. The close friends feature didn't necessarily end finsta.

“Twitter is always working on new ways to help people engage in healthy conversations, and we’re currently exploring ways to let people Tweet to smaller groups. We previewed this concept last year as public feedback helps shape what we build. We don’t have any further details to share but more to come soon,” Twitter told TechCrunch.
