The former University of Georgia football player was arrested in connection to the murder of a gas station clerk.

Wood was shot and killed in the early hours of March 19 by a masked man who wore sunglasses, a hood and a face mask.

The murder of Wood generated public interest and led to a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, the U.S. marshals service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, district attorney investigators and other offices collaborated on the investigation.

According to the sheriff's office, police in Philadelphia suspected Crumpton of being the shooter after shell casings at the crime scene were matched to another crime scene.

The evidence needed to get an arrest warrant was found after further investigation, according to the sheriff.

He played for Georgia as a receiver from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

He remains a suspect in the Philadelphia shooting, but no charges have been filed, according to a police department spokesman.
