Charlie Ewels was sent off in the Six Nations defeat against Ireland and has been banned for three games.

After a clash of heads in an attempted tackle with James Ryan, Ewels was shown a red card.

It was the earliest dismissal in the Championship.

He will not play for England in their final game of the tournament against France, as well as against Sale and Worcester.

Ewels admitted to foul play at the hearing.

Six Nations Rugby said the ban was halved from the usual term of six weeks because of the young man's clean record.

In a statement, the tournament organizers said that the player's early acceptance of the red card, his remorse and contrition for his offending, and his good character and conduct at the hearing were some of the mitigating factors.

Ewels has the right to appeal the decision within three days and also be offered the chance to take part in a coaching intervention programme.

Matches Ewels will miss:

England plays France on 19 March.

The Bath vs Sale Sharks match is on 26 March.

The Bath v Worcester Warriors game is on March 30.
