A source told Jeremy Fowler that the Cleveland Browns are releasing Austin Hooper.
The release of him will save the team $9 million against the cap.
In his best season with the Atlanta Falcons, he caught 75 receptions for 797 yards and six touchdown, and he was signed by the ClevelandBrowns in 2020.
While starting alongside tight end David Njoku in Cleveland's two-tight-end base offense, Hooper finished with only 38 receptions for 345 yards and three touchdown.
With the franchise tag placed on Njoku, Hooper became expendable. Harrison Bryant, who has played a key role in Cleveland's tight end rotation the past two seasons since being drafted out of Florida Atlantic, will slide into the starting role if the Browns don't sign another tight end.
Anthony Walker has agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with the Cleveland Browns, his agents told Adam Schefter.
Walker had a sack and 69 tackles in 13 games for the Browns last season.
Chris Hubbard is coming back to the team, the team said on Wednesday. A source told Fowler the deal is for one year.
