The Oakland A's traded third baseman Matt Chapman to the Toronto Blue Jays for four prospects.

The rebuilding A's will receive four minor league prospects, including the top pick in the 2021.

Chapman is a three-time Gold Glove winner and was an All-Star in 2019. He had a.243 batting average in five seasons with Oakland.

Chapman is the latest All-Star to be traded. The A's traded first baseman Matt Olson to the Atlanta Braves on Monday, less than a week after sending right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt to the New York Mets. Oakland's projected payroll was cut by $30 million because of the three trades.

Chapman said that he was sad to leave, but that he was happy to go somewhere that would be an incredible opportunity. I think it will be an amazing next couple of years.

This season and next, Chapman is eligible for an award. He earned $6.54 million in the year 2021, with a $50,000 bonus for Gold Glove.

The addition of Chapman is the latest move in a busy off-season for the Blue Jays, who lost reigning Cy Young Award winner and star infielder Marcus Semien as a free agent but also signed free-agent pitchers Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman and Yusei Kikuchi to Toronto finished one game behind Boston and New York in the wild-card race.
