According to reports, the New York Yankees believed Freddie wanted to go somewhere else.

Jon Heyman reported that the American League East team tried hard to land the coveted first baseman on the free-agency market, but he preferred not to.

The Yankees are worried that he may end up in Boston.

The New York Mets re-signed Anthony Rizzo to a two-year deal worth $30 to $35 million, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

The prize is still a solid one.

His resume includes four Gold Gloves, one Silver Slugger, three All-Star selections, and a World Series crown. He was acquired by the Yankees via trade from the Chicago Cubs.

He slashed.248/.344/.450 with 22 home runs and 61 runs scored in 141 games for the Cubs and Yankees in 2021, but he is likely past his prime.

With his glove, familiarity with the organization, power at the plate, and veteran leadership, it's safe to say that Anthony will help New York compete for a World Series crown with a loaded lineup.

One of the best free agents on the market this year is Freeman.

He has finished in the top nine in National League Most Valuable Player voting in each of the past four years, including when he won it in 2020. The Yankees are hoping that he doesn't do that for Boston, because he would have launched a lot of home runs in Yankee Stadium.

He slashed.300/.393/.500 with 31 home runs and 83RBI in 2021, and has shown no signs of slowing down at 32 years old.

He would have been a great fit for the Bronx Bombers, but they still ended up with a productive option at first base.
