Max Stephanie The Walking Dead

Eugene discovered in last week's episode of The Walking Dead that the woman he thought wasStephanie wasn't actually her.

At the end of the show, he learns that another woman is actually the woman who called herself "Steph" on the radio.

He believes her, even though he shouldn't. At one point she angrily asks him how he could have possibly believed that another fake person was actually a real person, and all I could think was, lady, why didn't you tell him yourself instead of waiting? It has been weeks.

That's not all I could think. This show is a steaming pile of garbage that bears almost zero resemblance to its former self, and I was thinking to myself, "Oh please someone kill me now and put me out of my misery." It is not the same show as it was in Season 7 and 8 but it is worse.

Eugene's love interests have been the focus of two episodes. He cried more than we needed to see. Max is the assistant to Commonwealth boss Pamela and her brother to Commonwealth general Mercer, which is the kind of person Eugene should trust.

There seem to have been many more radio conversations between her and Eugene than we originally thought.

Max says that it was dumb luck that he was able to tell a story to Eugene that was never before told in real life. It is all fake. She took the radio parts because someone thought they were trash. Oh my god, kill me now, I need some love.

Kill. Me. Now.

They talk about ice cream in the past. In the Commonwealth, everybody eats gobs and gobs of stuff. I haven't seen much ice cream since The Good Place and that was frozen yogurt.

We should play a drinking game where every time someone eats, walks around with or discusses ice cream, we take a shot. All of us would be hammered.

We talked about everything, as if Eugene hadn't been there himself.

This scene is hilarious to watch again. Most of it is from the past. Max has the most ridiculous cry-face, like he is stuck blubbering, soundlessly, while she talks, when it cuts to him and Eugene in person. He runs off when he learns the truth.

She has the audacity to be mad at him when he goes to find her again. She tried to shut the door and it was a big red flag. She would have a little patience if she cared about you at all. He brought her ice cream and apologized to her, and she said she was trying to understand who wrote it.

When Max discovers that he is writing a novel, she guesses that it takes place in the Carpathian mountains. It comes off as wildly, wildly stupid and is meant to establish how close they were to each other over the radios.

At some point during those talks, did Eugene say that he would like to write a spy novel set in the Carpathian mountains? The entire exchange is written by someone who doesn't understand how normal people talk to one another and it makes no sense. I'm okay with Eugene as a character, but not as a love interest for Max.

The System Is Broken

There were other things that happened in this sad, sad excuse for a Walking Dead episode. Pamela is trying to make a cooperation treaty with each community. Alexandria joined up. Oceanside is committed to Maggie, despite the fact that she has been gone for years without a word. The model leader who everyone should follow is the woman who abandoned everyone.

Maggie is distrustful of these new allies. She should be since there is a sinister side to the Commonwealth, but her boring stubbornness is just so predictable. Shouldn't they use their help? This is the end of the world. People are hungry. The people are giving resources, food, and workers. They don't have to. They can squash you like a bug. Take advantage of the help.

There are two thoughts.

The armor of the Stormtrooper is so dumb that I can't handle it. How did they make it? I don't see how it's possible in the Commonwealth. I'm curious where they get the raw ingredients for ice cream and ice cream cones.

The true story of TWD and FTWD is that our heroes go from one community to the next and destroy them. The end of the world is something the bad guys have built. The Saviors have a functioning society. The Commonwealth does too. They did too. These places are decent places of safety in a world that is crazy. Our heroes come and destroy them all. The Commonwealth is doomed. When he had the chance, he should have killed them all.

The last part is about how Carol got the surgery that she needed for Ezekiel and how he is angry because other people need help. Carol, the system is broken. You live in a zombie apocalypse and have found a place where you can have surgeries with a real doctor. You have spent a decade living in fear and desperation and you call the Commonwealth's healthcare system broken? The writers are commenting on the healthcare system in a ham-fisted way.

It took me three tries. This review is late. My life is in a weird place right now and my motivation to actually watch and write about a show that has betrayed its fans is at a minimum. The Walking Dead has become a joke. The first episode of the second part of the season was pretty good, but it has been terrible ever since. For shame.

Over and out.
