The Senate passed a bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. Americans would no longer change their clocks twice a year if it passes through the House.

The bipartisan group of lawmakers co-sponsored the Sunshine Protection Act to bring the country in line with states like Florida which have already voted to end Standard Time.

Data that shows its negative health effects were some of the reasons given by the senators sponsoring the bill. Some studies suggest that Daylight Saving Time could lead to fewer car accidents, lower rates of depression, and higher rates of physical activity. It could boost economic activity and reduce energy usage, and it could help employees whose schedules are disrupted by time changes.

Daylight Saving was created as a wartime effort and it is time to end it, argued Sen. James Lankford.

Daylight Saving Time began more than a century ago, and the lifestyles of Americans are very different today.

Daylight Saving Time is preferable to not having it, but Sen. Sinema was excited to have her colleagues on board with the change.

Here at The Week, you can read more about why people don't like changing the clocks.
