Mar 15, 2022

For the third year in a row, Keegan Murray has been a first-team All-American for Iowa, and Kofi Cockburn has been a second-team All-American for Illinois.

The Fighting Illini never had a first-team pick until last season, when Cockburn was voted to the second team. The last time the Hawkeyes had a first-team selection was in 1952.

The Big Ten was represented on the AP's first team by Wisconsin's Johnny Davis, Kentucky's Oscar Tshiebwe, and Kansas' Ochai Agbaji.

Murray, a sophomore guard from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who is fourth nationally in scoring at 23.6 points per game, said that he had to learn from a lot of guys last year.

Murray said it was like everything had been put together for him.

The fifth-seeded Hawkeyes, who won the Big Ten tournament title Sunday, will play in the NCAA tournament.

Murray said that they struggled earlier in the year but are doing well now.

The teams on the first-team picks have a chance to make a run in the playoffs.

The same day as Davis and the third-seeded Badgers open against Colgate, the fourth-seeded Fighting Illini play Chattanooga. Kentucky will be the second seed going into its game against Saint Peter's. One of the play-in teams will face the top-seeded Jayhawks.

Davis is the third first-team All-American from the Badgers, joining Alando Tucker in 2007 and Frank Kaminsky in 2015. The Jayhawks have had a first-team pick for the third time in six years, after Frank Mason and Devonte Graham.

Like Murray with the Hawkeyes, Agbaji has some experience cutting nets.

The Big 12 Player of the Year was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after leading Kansas past Texas Tech in the conference title game.

Christian Braun said it was great to see him do all these things.

The second team.

Drew Timme was the leader of the second team for the second year in a row and was joined by a freshman teammate. The Big Ten had two players on the second team, with Jaden Ivey of Purdue and Bennedict Mathurin of Arizona.

Timme and Suggs were both second-team picks last year for the top seed in the NCAA tournament. Kispert was a first-teamer last year.

The third team.

The Blue Devil were the only team from the vaunted basketball conference to land in the final Top 25 poll of the season. The last All-American to have played for the Blue Devil was Banchero.

E.J. Liddell of Ohio State and Walker Kessler of auburn were honorable mention picks last season and were joined on the third team by Banchero. The last spot on the third team was filled by James Akinjo andJD Notae of Arkansas.

Excellent menTION.

Colorado State's David Roddy was the top vote getter. Others to receive the honor include Johnny Juzang of UCLA, Alondes Williams of Wake Forest, Tari Eason of LSU, Max Abmas of Oral Roberts, and RonHarper Jr. of Rutgers.
