Russia on Tuesday announced sanctions against prominent US officials.

According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, the sanctions were a response to the current US Administration's attempt to maintain American hegemony and its use of a "very aggressive" policy towards Russia.

The Secretary of State, Defense Secretary, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of the CIA and White House Press Secretary are among the US officials who have been sanctioned by Russia.

We do not refuse to maintain official relations if they meet our national interests, and we will solve problems if they arise from the status of people on the black list.

The sanctions are indicative of the historic tensions between the US and Russia. Since the Cold War, the dynamic between Moscow and Washington has been contentious.

As a result of the war in Ukraine, the US and its allies have imposed economic sanctions on Russia. A number of Russian officials have been hit with sanctions.

The US rarely targets world leaders with sanctions. In announcing the sanctions against the Russian leader, the US Treasury Department said that President Putin joins a small group that includes dictators such as Kim Jong Un, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, and Bashar al-Assad.

Security assistance has been increased by the Biden administration. More than $1 billion in military assistance has been provided by the US since Biden took office. Emergency aid for Ukraine was included in the omnibus spending bill signed by Biden on Tuesday. The US has warned Russia not to move a single inch into NATO territory, while not committing US troops to the conflict.

The sanctions against Biden were called a terrible thing by Donald Trump before he went on to push an allegation that Biden received $3.5 million from the wife of a Moscow mayor. Trump has praised the Russian leader over his justification for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
