Mack Wilson was traded to the New England Pats for Chase Winovich.
Winovich was a part-time starter for the Pats in 2020 and finished with over 50 tackles. He only had 11 tackles and no sacks last year.
He was a healthy scratch for the team's playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, an indication that his future with the team was uncertain. Winovich was mostly used as a pass-rusher in pass situations, and while the Pats hoped he could become an every-down player later in his career, it seemed he couldn't get the trust of the coaching staff as a run defender. Winovich was injured last season.
Winovich thanked New England in a message on the social networking site. The region will always hold the most special places in my heart. The time is right for the next chapter of my journey.

The 6-foot-1, 233-pound Wilson is not as big as the Pats have traditionally wanted their off-the-line linebackers to be, but he will join a younger group of players who could be tapped at the position.
Wilson wants to be an off-the-line linebacker, a position that could be changed with the free agents of 2021. Veteran Jamie Collins is a free agent.
Wilson and Winovich were drafted in the same year.
