The Packers and Rodgers signed a new contract on Tuesday.
Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported the deal was done.
Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Rodgers will have a salary cap of $28 million. Rapoport gave more detail.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheetThe contract is a 4-year extension, a complicated one, with two dummy years — placeholders — on the back end. It lowers his cap number and gives GB plenty of room to work. https://t.co/VlnbubjPnw
Rapoport said Rodgers will get $150.6 million guaranteed in a deal that will pay him $74.5 million in the first year and $62 million in the second year.
Tom Pelissero gave a full breakdown of the guaranteed money.
Tom Pelissero @TomPelisseroOn first read of #Packers QB Aaron Rodgers' new contract, he gets:$42 million in 2022$59.515M in 2023$49.3M in 2024
So that's $150.815M over the next three years, and the first two are fully guaranteed at signing.
Rapoport reported on March 8 that Rodgers new deal was worth $200 million over four years. The veteran said that a new contract hadn't been signed.
The new contract could make him the highest-paid player in the league.
Rodgers won his second consecutiveMVP award after throwing for 4,115 yards and 37 touchdown in 16 starts, despite a tumultuous season that included controversy regarding his vaccination status.
The deal ends months of speculation about his future. After the Packers lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs, he indicated that he would take some time to think about his next move. He was asked if he would retire or request a trade instead of returning to the Packers.
Now that Rodgers is back, Green Bay can look to address other needs that will help them compete for a title. The Packers used a franchise tag on Adams, who is the quarterback's favorite target in the passing game.
Green Bay will look to get its first title since Rodgers' Super Bowl win in 2011.
