British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and London Heathrow Airport have all announced that they will no longer require face masks. Travel restrictions will be lifted from Friday.
Even though face coverings will no longer be required, travellers are still encouraged to wear masks in order to protect themselves from the swine flu.
“Heathrow strongly encourages those at the airport to continue wearing a face-covering – particularly when coming into close contact with others – although this will no longer be a firm requirement.”

The decision to remove mask mandates was welcomed by both major British carriers based in London. The health and safety of the passenger is their number one priority.
The Chief Operating Officer of British Airways said that passengers wouldn't be required to wear a mask on flights if their destination needed it.
“We welcome this as a really positive step forward. For destinations where the wearing of a face covering is not mandated, our customers are able to make a personal choice, and we kindly request everyone respects each other’s preferences.”
Jason Mahoney, British Airways’ Chief Operating Officer
The policy will be introduced gradually across its network, beginning with the Caribbean flights from Manchester and Heathrow.
Virgin Atlantic's Chief Customer and Operating Officer, Corneel Koster said that the mask requirements differ by market and all flights to and from the United States will have mask requirements in place until 18 April at the earliest.
The United Kingdom will lift all of its travel restrictions on Friday, March 18. Grant Shapps, the UK's Transport Secretary, mentioned the government's decision.
