The company is trying to catch up with the social media industry by introducing a new feature for Idea Pins and a new Pin format. Pinners will be able to download and share their Idea Pins across social channels.
Idea Pins aren't just videos, they're also meant to help Pinterest be more competitive with other short-form video experiences. They are more like a mix of Stories and video, each with up to 20 pages of content which you can tap through like a Story. The content can include either a static image or a video. Users can scroll through the various Idea Pins from creators they follow in a vertical TikTok-like feed.
Pin Sharing will begin with the icon in the share menu, followed by the Idea Pin. The content will be saved as a watermarked video that stitches all the Idea Pin pages together, and then ends with a card that displays the creator's name andPinterest usernames, a format that mimics TikTok's download option. When the download is over, the user will be directed to the Facebook or Instagram app with the Story creation flow open and the watermarked Idea Pin video ready to be further edited and posted.

The download option will allow creators to share to other platforms as well, including popular destinations likeSnapchat and TikTok.
The sharing feature would allow creators to market theirPinterest presence across social platforms and lure their audience back to the site where they can monetize their short-form videos. Idea Pins can be used to make content shoppable through affiliate links and they can partner on paid brand partnerships, like they can do on other platforms. They can earn money by participating in challenges issued by the company as part of the $20 million Creator rewards fund in the U.S.
It's clear that pinsy hopes that the videos will serve as a marketing tool for pinsy itself, but it's also possible that the videos could help the creators gain more views for the content originally produced for pinsy.
Back in the early days of the internet, the site was used to save ideas, like things to buy, recipes to cook, and travel plans. Online retailers and merchants were enlisted to work with pins to connect their ideas to commerce. Video has proven to be a more effective shopping tool than static images.
At a recent creator event, TikTok announced that 42% of its users immediately purchased a product they saw on the platform at some point.
Other platforms will likely downrank content if it contains a watermark, even though it may help reach the creators. This will be used as a signal to downrank content in the Reels tab.
Today, all users will be able to download and share the new Idea Pin.
