According to data seen by the Wall Street Journal, Starlink was the most downloaded app in Ukraine on Monday afternoon, after reaching the top spot on Sunday.

Sensor Tower, a firm that provides App Store and Google Play data, told the Wall Street Journal that the app was downloaded 21,000 times globally on Sunday, with most of the downloads coming from Ukraine.

According to Sensor Tower, the app has been downloaded more than 100,000 times in Ukraine.

When Russia invaded, Mykhailo Fedorov, the country's minister of digital transformation, asked Musk to give Ukraine the terminals that enable the service.

The email was seen by CNBC last week and it showed that the company assisted in the rapid delivery of the Starlink terminals to Ukraine. Since Russia began its invasion three weeks ago, there has been an increase in internet outages. The British Ministry of Defense warned last week that Russia may be targeting Ukraine's communications infrastructure, but internet access may be shut off due to damage from Russian attacks. The capital city of Kyiv and several other areas were without power. According to data from a U.S.-based internet tracking firm, the city of Mariupol was without internet for a week straight as of March 9. Forbes reported last week that one of Ukraine's major internet providers had been hacked multiple times and that it was not clear if Russia was behind the attacks.

Musk challenged Putin to a single combat with the stakes being Ukraine. The director general of the Russian space agency called Musk a "little devil" and a "weakling" in his response.
