Since Kentucky won the national championship in 2012 no team has been the top ranked in the final Top 25. The last six national champion finished among the top six in the final poll, including third place last season.
The lowest ranked team to win the title in at least 20 years was the University of Connecticut, which was 18th in the final poll of the year.

Iowa moved eight spots to 16th, while auburn moved four spots to 8th. North Carolina fell out of the top 25 after losing to Virginia Tech in the semifinals.
