New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson will be an unrestricted free agent over the summer, and he is expected to have suitors.
The veteran center is expected to be pursued by the Detroit Pistons, Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks.
Robinson has had an up and down season. The young man is shooting 76.9 percent from the field and 48.7 percent from the charity stripe, but he's only scoring 8.4 points, 8.7 rebound and 1.7 blocks per game.
He is the prototypical rim- running center on offense, with the ability to sky for pick-and-rolls. His impact on the offensive side is limited. The Knicks don't have the high-end point guard play needed to use Rose as a roller because he is out.
The Knicks defense has taken a major step back this season, but Robinson is a solid rim-protector.
You know you have some serious athletic ability when you block a shot.
Fred Katz @FredKatzMitchell Robinson just this week has blocked two of the most “unblockable” shots in basketball: A Luka Doncic stepback and now what should have been a clean a Kevin Durant jumper.
The Charlotte Hornets are five games back of the Knicks for the final play-in spot in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks were one of the best stories in the league last season, but they may not even make the playoffs.
It has been a rough season in New York, and it might be the last for head coach Tom Thibodeau. Robinson will attract a lot of attention in free agency, so he might not be the only one to leave.
