The Miami Dolphins have agreed to re-sign defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah and also added a free-agent running back to their backfield on Monday.
The four-year, $65 million deal that was reached by Ogbah included $32 million fully guaranteed at signing, while the two-year, $12.6 million contract that was reached by Edmonds included $6.1 million guaranteed.
The Dolphins used the franchise tag on tight end Mike Gesicki last week, so they wanted to re-sign their own free agents.
The Dolphins may have a feature running back with new head coach Mike McDaniel.
During the past two seasons with the Dolphins, Ogbah recorded back-to-back nine-sack campaigns, after starting his career with Cleveland and Kansas City.
Over the past two seasons, he won 14.4% of his pass rushes. His 18 sacks rank fifth of any defensive lineman since he joined the Dolphins, and his 48 disruptive dropbacks are the most in the league.
The next-closest defensive lineman in the league has 21 passes batting down since 2020 and Ogbah has 30.
In the year of 2021, he set career highs with 592 rushing yards and 116 rushes, as well as 43 catches for 311 receiving yards.
Four of the five games that he missed were on injured reserve with an ankle injury. He missed the season finale with injuries.
In each of the four seasons that he has played, Edmonds improved, going from 448 rushing yards in 2020 to 592 in 2021.
He reported to training camp as an improved receiver after setting out to improve his receiving. He was on pace for a career best in receiving yards but the injuries kept him from reaching his personal mark.
In the second round of the 2016 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns selected Oklahoma State's Ogbah.
