The new dock has up to 16 terabytes of storage, alongside a more typical array of dock ports. Storage doesn't come cheap. The docking station is available in two capacities, one for $499.99 and the other for 16 terabytes of storage.
That sounds like a lot, but the dock is combining two computer accessories that are already relatively expensive. One of the best-regarded Thunderbolt 3 docks on the market, Caldigit's TS3 Plus, typically retails for between $250 and $300 and doesn't include any extra storage. Depending on the specifications you need, the cost of 2 terabytes of external storage can be as high as $200.
It's a shame that the new dock doesn't support the newer version of the standard, but the company says it's too difficult to get the chips. It misses out on features like being able to power an 8K display.
The rest of the dock's specifications are respectable. The rear of the device has a pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports that can provide up to 96W of power. There are also two Type-A ports on the rear of the vehicle. There is a pair of 3.5mm jacks for headphones and mics, an SD card slot, and a third Type-A port.
The new dock is available on Amazon.
